Engine Launches Texas Tour After Dropping New Music Video

Engine refreshes the indie scene with a new, action-packed music video and coordinated tour in the southern central U.S.
Four albums and several music videos and performances in, Louisiana-based Engine have done well to establish their unique genre, a space-western spinoff that also embraces Caddo-American folk rock and psychedelic gospel. For an offbeat comparison, think psychedelic era Beatles’ instrumentals meets lyrical influences from Bright Eyes meets an art-rock allure sourced from Arcade Fire. The resulting product is a mishmash harnessed by young talent, who have crafted their own distinct niche and are working tirelessly to share it with the music world.
Part of this expanded reach for their music is the release of several albums. The band has recorded and self-published an EP and four full-length albums, the latest of which is Red Moon Rises. For this last album, Engine proudly took the reins to record, produce and press the album to vinyl themselves. Their latest efforts have been to rigorously promote the album in their northern Louisiana community and beyond.
Hot off Red Moon Rises, “High Noon” has now been made into a music video, which, like the band’s other videos, embraces storytelling and focuses on visual aspects of bringing their music to life. Set up like an-old school black-and-white film, the video features—what else?—a guy in a space suit poking around earth, dodging laser gunfire, and fighting an angry, face-painted mob. The video’s soundtrack is purely instrumental until the spaceman has to dodge laser fire, but everything from the music’s buildup to the rising intensity of the vocals fits well into the action scene that unfolds.
To promote their new music video, Engine toured across Texas, and has one date in Louisiana. Upcoming show dates include:
- Mon., March 16 w/ Cory Taylor Cox, Spoken Nerd - Bear's on Fairfield, Shreveport, LA
Last year, Engine had their track “Whiskey Hymnal” featured on an installment of WiFi PR Group’s digital mixtape series, Indie Anthems, which was released at Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival in July 2014. The band’s track comingled with songs from other up-and-coming indie artists spanning a wide range of genre, all of whom gained national and even international exposure from the festival and online promotion as well. Listen or grab a download of Indie Anthems, including Engine’s track, on Bandcamp.
