Former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighter front – man Dave Grohl is to appear in the new Muppets movie. In the film, the hard rocking singer will stand in for Animal and take anger management classes in a cameo role for the film.

The singer will be joined by other actors playing cameos which include Jason Segal from the film How I Met Your Mother, Jack Black, and Ricky Gervais.

Dave Grohl’s inclusion in the Muppet’s film shows the changing face of rock as a musical genre. A decade ago or two ago, rock and metal artists appearing in any children’s show save Sesame Street would have been frowned upon by society as well as fans of the genre.

Dave Grohl, who is one of the better known and respected members of that genre appearing in the new film, shows that both society and indeed the rock musical genre has moved on in what can only be described as progress.

It will be interesting to see if any children recognise him when he appears in the film, as indeed any of the other cameos in the film.

Grohl has worked with Black before in the film trade, where he made an appearance in the 2006 film Pick of Destiny. He is currently recording a new Foo Fighters album and played drums on Michael Jackson’s posthumous album, ‘Michael’.
