The 10th series of American Idol has kicked off but without the original front man Simon Cowell. Not to disappoint though, theres some big star names including Jennifer Lopez and Steve Tyler.

The new line up is hoping to boost American Idol which has seen a decline lately. The show however it still watched by 24 million in the final last year. This made it one of the most watched programs in the USA.

The show is produced by Fox, they hope that the new line up of A list stars will boost the show with the departure of Cowell.

Already there has been a mixed response from US papers today. Some say the show can continue and thrive, whilst others are not as sure.
