Feud Over “Kylie” Trademark

Kylie Minogue and Kylie Jenner are reportedly battling each other for the use of the name “Kylie”.

According to reports, Jenner is trying to trademark the name so that she can use it for advertising but Minogue is not happy and has started action to ensure that the reality star doesn’t succeed.

Legal representation for Minogue have dived into action, saying that if Jenner was to trademark “Kylie”, it would create confusion between the two. To add insult to injury, they also referred to Jenner as a “secondary reality television personality”, taking a dig at her role on Keeping up with the Kardashians.

Their point is a valid one as Minogue named her first album “Kylie” – a full nine years before Jenner was even born.

Minogue has addressed the situation slyly over Twitter by tweeting lyrics from her song Light Years: “Hello..... My name is KYLIE #lightyears”.

Have celebrities gone too far with trademarking their names? It seems unfair to a substantial amount of women around the world that their name should be synonymous with a “secondary reality TV personality”. Whether the courts agree or not remains to be seen.
