It may seem along time until the summer but rumours about who will be headlining where have already begun with Beyonce said to be lined up to close the festival and headline the final night.

In the past the award winning singer had said that she would “love" to follow the example of her husband Jay-Z in headlining at the enormous summer festival.

Michael Eaves, the organiser of the festival is reported to have said that the third headline act for the festival is: “An American artist that I've been wanting for yonks and yonks.”

Although pundits are placing their money on the “Crazy in Love” singer there has been no official word from Beyonce's management with a spokesperson for the singer declining to comment on the reports.

Glastonbury has traditionally been the an alternative music stronghold with Jay-Z having to work to win over a crowd that were not expecting a performance from a rap artist.

Talking about his own performance in 2008 Jay-Z said: “It felt like we were invading a country. The old guard standing in the way was one of the hurdles we had to break down.”

Other bands reported to be taking part in the festival include Coldplay and Irish rockers U2, who were supposed to play at the festival last year but had to pull out.

U2 frontman Bono wrote on the bands website previously: “Looking at the tour dates – there is a gap in the band's schedule ahead of the East Lansing show on June 26th which would make the Friday night a possibility.”
