The composer and innovator of experimental music known as Joseph Paul Freije has released his latest full-length record, “Elements of Evidence.” The LP has been proudly published on the Phrygian Music independent record label outside the control of the corporate music industry. Evocative, imaginative, and bursting with sonic color, “Elements of Evidence” is a startling reason for fans of cutting-edge songwriting to pay strict attention to this prolific artist from Hawaii.

Amusingly, a corresponding video for “Elements of Evidence” has also appeared online, purportedly by an extraterrestrial species from another dimension: https://youtu.be/kZenbWjfOjs.

At 13 tracks and more than an hour long, “Elements of Evidence” is a very comprehensive tour around Joseph Freije's imagination. However, as part of a six-album series being released in 2016 alone, “Elements...” only lights up one angle of the Freije vision. Freije's repertoire extends to jazz, new age, psychedelic, experimental and beyond.

In addition to the above, Joseph Freije's listening habits include classical, classic rock, big band, bluegrass, alternative, and much, much more. His personal CD library has over 700 albums. This gives an idea of the unbounded vistas available to him when he composes.

“Music is the highest form of spiritual communication that exists,” writes Freije, a man of few words. “The world uses music for purposes that cloud the reality of what music really is: medicine and a reason for living.”

Joseph Paul Freije's surname is a direct descendant of Phrygia, just as is the artist, himself. In ancient times, Phrygian music was considered orgiastic. It was very popular with the working classes. Prominent examples of the Phrygian mode can be found in the music traditions of Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, the Middle East and all of North Africa. The Phrygian spirit is at the heart of Freije's compositions even when his melodies seem least similar to the sound of old.

Fans of Freije's 2013 “Phrygian Piano and Sound Spiral Part II” record will note that this new “Elements of Evidence” LP is a departure from the improvisational and unorthodox methods employed on the former. Using synth instruments from every part of the postmodern orchestra, Freije's “Elements of Evidence” belongs in nightclubs, DJ play lists, living rooms, headphones and car stereos alike. Fans of legendary experimental composers like Erik Satie and fans of mainstream digital-music giants like David Guetta will both find fascination and inspiration in “Elements of Evidence.”

“Elements of Evidence” by Joseph Paul Freije is available online worldwide now. Fans of experimental, alternative, and postmodern synth music should get in early.
