The singer and songwriter known as Roland Parker has released his latest LP record, “Gonna Make It.” The album contains 11 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 45 minutes. It features the popular Parker single, “Better Not Quit.” Both have been proudly published on the Roland Parker Records independent music label outside the creative control of the corporate music industry. Funky, groovy, full of bass, rhythm 'n' blues, “Gonna Make It” by Roland Parker is a soul album for the new millennium.
Chapel Hill, NC's Roland Parker cites as main artistic influences Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Ernie Isley (the Isley Brothers) and Frank Marino (Mahogany Rush). As a result, his guitar style is steeped in the funk-infused classic rock style of the late '60s and '70s, particularly with regard to Hendrix and Marino, whose seminal guitar modes are most like the playing and songwriting of Roland Parker on his “Gonna Make It” record.
Upbeat, positive and even heartwarming at times, Parker's “Gonna Make It” is a friendly, welcoming collection of soul songs with a good sense of humor and more than its fair share of groove. Sporting songs with titles such as “Luva Hata,” “Put that Funk in My Face” and “Fried Chickhen and Wallamellon,” “Gonna Make It” is an album with variety in spades. This variety is indicative of Parker's own personality and manner of songwriting and performance.
“Don't be afraid to play what you wanna play!” exclaims Roland Parker on being asked to describe the major theme of his new LP. “These days you must be rap or rock or pop. I play from rock and jazz to country, and whatever you hear, it is from my heart.”
A self-taught professional from the old school, Roland Parker has been performing live for more than three decades. He isn't afraid of painting with unconventional colors, either.
“I like to take chances,” he says. “If it works, fine. If not? Oh, well. I'm an artist and I love people!”
Asked to provide a copy of his current bio, Parker is quick to reply.
“Love is my bio.”
“Gonna Make It” and its single, “Better Not Quit” by Roland Parker are available now at over 700 digital music outlets online worldwide.
