The man and his beloved machine are back! Formed back in 2004, the improbable duo of DAV!D&CLARA, made up of singer, songwriter and producer DAV!D (David Castillo) and his trustworthy computer CLARA, have since released the albums “Emotion Machine” (2013), “H/U/M/A/N/” (2014), and “The Adventures in Love, Lust, and Life” (2015).
DAV!D&CLARA have also released a host of singles, such as “Go with the flow” from “Emotion Machine” which was featured on the compilation disc “You heard us back when VOL.8”, distributed by Zia Records. All proceeds from the recording went to fund animal shelters in Phoenix Arizona and Las Vegas Nevada.
DAV!D&CLARA have just released their latest single, entitled “Stopping Traffic”. DAV!D, whose songs almost always seem to be motivated by the rawest, most basic of human emotions – like love, loss, hope and joy – seems to be in love once again. As this song sounds like an ode to someone really special – “You wonder why I stick around? Cause you’re wonderful to me in every way. / You’re one in a billion, like a star that fell from the heavens, then I, into your arms.”
The lyrics in every song that DAV!D&CLARA writes are heartfelt and packed with as much pathos as possible, which when coupled with the quiet swelling melodies, to the in-flight electronic sections, produce the largest dynamic of emotion in each three or four minutes you’re likely to hear.
And “Stopping Traffic” is no different. DAV!D&CLARA, (but it would be more accurate to say DAV!D), no doubt knows how to connect with an audience, a skill developed or perhaps inherent from his own affecting personal relationships.
DAV!D (and CLARA, of course) is so talented and that he will eventually go places with his music because it is truly special. It’s beautiful how seductive some of his songs are, and he puts his feelings out there in the open. This takes guts, because DAV!D lays it on the line – during both the good, and the bad times in his life.
I have always loved his lyrics because they’re very substantial and he always sounds so sincere while singing them in that deep, sensual and sulky register.
Even if you think that Alternative electronic music isn’t your cup of tea, give “Stopping Traffic” a listen. Genres are not a measure of what you do and don’t like, they are merely organizing tools. You never know when you will stumble upon something that you fall in love with, and there’s so much out there to love…especially an improbable duo such as DAV!D&CLARA just released their latest single, entitled “Stopping Traffic”.
