Glastonbury headliners confirmed as Coldplay and Beyonce

After a week of speculation organisers of the legendary Glastonbury music festival have confirmed that UK band Coldplay will be appearing on the Pyramid stage on the Saturday night while Beyonce would also be making an appearance at the festival.

Michael Eavis, the man behind the festival which attracts the biggest names in the music industry each year, said via the festival website: “Coldplay have played a major part in the festival over the last 10 years or so. As their popularity grew around the world I was so proud of them.”

He added: “This is the triumphant return of a band that everyone here feels part of. They are one of the greatest phenomena to grow from these fields.”

Coldplay first made their appearance at the festival way back in 1999 when they played in the new bands tent just weeks after signing their record deal.

The last time the band famed for hits such as “Yellow” and “The Hardest Part” werre last at Glastonbury in 2005 where there performance was widely and critically acclaimed.

When ot came to confirming rumours of Beyonce taking to the stage to entertain the festival goers, Emily Eavis, the daughter and co organiser of the event, said: “I went to see her live last year and was blown away by the might of the show. She has such soul an amazing voice with an incredible, all female band.”

She added: “She is, I believe, the first female solo artist to headline, so it's a big moment for us, What better way to see off the festival till 2013?”

Glastonbury will be held this year as usual but the organisers are taking a break next year before intending to return for music lovers keen to see some of the hottest, biggest and best music acts in the world in 2013.
