British singer Adele will be celebrating this week as she tops both the UK singles and album charts.
The song “Someone Like You” which she performed at the Brit Awards stormed the chart moving from position number 47 last week up to the top spot this week.
Meanwhile her album, “21” has held on at the top of the album charts for the fourth consecutive week.
Not only was Adele at number one in the charts, the award winning singer also has an other single “Rolling In The Deep” currently up from number five to number four while her debut album “19” is at number four in the album charts.
The top spots have launched Adele into the history books with her being the first living artist to have two top five hits in both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart at the same time since The Beatles.
“I Want To Hold Your Hand” and “She Loves You” were at number two and five in the single charts in January 1964 while their albums “With The Beatles” and “Please Please Me” were at number one and two in the album chart.
The highly anticipated new release from Lady Gaga “Born This Way” failed to reach the top spot despite her performance at the Grammys while last weeks number one by Jessie J slipped down to number two in the singles chart.
Brit winners and performers did well in the singles chart his week with two time winner Tinie Tempah who features on the JLS release “Eyes Wide Shut” seeing the hit climb back into the top ten from number 17. Rihanna, another Brit performer, saw her hit “S&M” climb the chart after her spot on the show.
It continued to be a good week for the girls in the album charts, apart from releases by Adele, PJ Harvey entered the chart at number eight with her offering “Let England Shake”.
