It has been announced that this year the MTV Europe Music Awards show will be taking place in the Northern Irish capital of Belfast.
The music television channel that broadcast not only across Europe, but the globe, will be preparing fans for the upcoming show and hyping the event in general by holding a series of events in and around the city leading up to the ceremony which is to take place at the Odyssey Arena in November this year.
Antonio Campo Dall'Orto fro MTV said: “Belfast's vibrant nightlife and compelling music scene, known for fostering emerging artists and turning out international chart toppers, provides the perfect backdrop for one of the world's biggest nights in music.”
He added: “The spirit of Belfast combined with our expertise is the perfect foundation for an unforgettable event and unique night.”
The MTV Europe music awards first began back in 1994 and since beginning the show has attracted not only a huge international audience but also some of the biggest names in music with Take That, Beyonce and U2 being just some of the names that have graced the stage of the show previously.
Last year the awards show, held in the Spanish capital of Madrid, was hosted by US actress Eva Longoria with Rihanna, Plan B and Bon Jovi all playing to the crowd. This year it is hoped that similar high profile names will be making the journey to Belfast.
The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Pat Convery said: “Belfast has a rich musical history and has produced artists such as Snow Patrol and the legendary Van Morrison and we now have an unprecedented opportunity to shine a spotlight on our musical heritage while also providing a major boost to our economy.”
