NY – Robert Miller’s Project Grand Slam (PGS), the celebrated Jazz Rock Fusion band with a twist of Classic Rock and Latin led by acclaimed bassist/composer Robert Miller, has completed a breakthrough year in 2017 with the release of a highly regarded new album, performances at four international music festivals, and openers for several world class artists at major venues

PGS has accumulated over one million video views while defying genres, languages and geographic boundaries.  The band has wowed audiences from Jazz to Rock, from Millennials to Baby Boomers, and cultivated a fervent, worldwide fan base.

In June 2017 the band released its fifth CD, “The PGS Experience”, distributed by SONY/RED.  The album features saxophone superstar Mindi Abair on two tracks by Robert, “Metro Shuffle” – a powerhouse song – and “Fishin” – a laid back Island vibe song.  The album combines these songs and 3 other new studio tracks with 4 live tracks featuring some of the band’s most beloved songs – including Robert’s unique reimagined versions of “You Really Got Me” by The Kinks and Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire” –  giving listeners the full measure of the dynamic musicianship and performance of PGS.

Reviews of the album have been simply outstanding, including:“Fresh, diverse and full of energy! ...Man, they just kill it live!” (Keith “Muzikman” Hannaleck),and”Fast and furious funk, infectious melodies and spirited jams!" (Jonathan Widran).

The album has been called a “Must Have Album” by Jazziz Magazine and finished the year at #7 on the Smooth Jazz Global Radio chart. It was named a “Best Of 2017” by The MacWire, saying:

“Another stunning album this year was Robert Miller’s

Project Grand Slam’s The PGS Experience. Miller,

a bassist supreme who constantly reminded this

writer of Jack Bruce, wove together an inventive

and compelling album, highlighted by their Phish

cover of “Free”, as well as an original number,

“Fishin’”.  Also, a live version of their remarkable

re-working of The Kinks “You Really Got Me” was

sublime. The album is a Best Of for certain!”

In 2017 PGS performed at four international music festivals – Jamaica Ocho Rios International Jazz Festival (Jamaica), Jazz On The River (Michigan), Jazz In The Park (Alabama), and the Harlem Summerstage (NYC).  Each of these festivals has asked the band back in 2018, plus PGS has already been invited to perform at the Nisville Jazz Festival in Serbia next August, the largest and most prestigious jazz festival in southeastern Europe. The band anticipates adding more festivals in 2018.

The band opened for several world renowned artists this past year, including Boney James (2x), Mindi Abair (2x), and Blues Traveler, at world class venues including The Ridgefield Playhouse, Mayo Performing Arts Center, and BB King’s Blues Club NYC.  John Popper of Blues Traveler said of the band’s performance: “PGS is freakin’ awesome!” and Mindi Abair also called the band’s performance “awesome!”.

No Depression praised their last album, “The Queen’s Carnival” (2016), as “a uniquely affecting work…impossibly memorable!” With influences as diverse as Jimi Hendrix, The Kinks, Afro-Cuban rhythms and Celtic folk, Robert has delivered a sound like no other. In fact, one of Robert’s musical signatures is to take Classic Rock songs such as Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Fire’, The Kinks’ ‘You Really Got Me’, and Cream’s ‘I’m So Glad’ and to completely reimagine them.

Says Robert: “This past year has been wonderful for the band. Breaking into the festival circuit, opening for some amazing artists, and recording and releasing “The PGS Experience”.  We’re psyched to continue our climb up the ladder in 2018.  Our music is unique and resonates with every audience that we’ve performed for, which is a great feeling!”
