Beyonce has been revealed as the latest star to donate money earned for performing for Gaddafi to charitable causes.

The “Crazy in Love” star gave money she earned from a concert for Gaddafi to the Haiti relief fund more than a year ago and made the announcement of the donation only days after it came to light that singer Nelly Furtado had been given one million dollars by the family of the Libyan leader for a performance in Italy in 2007.

Nelly Furtado tweeted: “In 2007, I received one million$ from the Gaddafi clan to perform a 45 min show for guests at a hotel in Italy. I am going to donated the $”

A publicist for Beyonce said that she had performed at a private party for a new years eve party in 2009 on the Caribbean island of St Barts.

The star is said to have made the donation to the Haiti relief fund after she found out that it had been linked to the Gaddafi family.

While Beyonce and Nelly Furtado have admitted to playing concerts linked to Gaddafi, diva Mariah Carey has said that she had been unaware that she had been booked to perform a concert for the family and now is embarrassed about the entire episode.

In a statement she says how she had been naive about the booking and feels “horrible and embarrassed” adding that performers need to take responsibility and be aware about who they are playing for.

In a bid to make up for the faux pas the singer is said to be donating the proceeds of a new song from her upcoming album to organisations that are based on raising awareness about human rights.

Members of the music industry are now calling on Usher and 50 Cent to follow the ladies in donating money received for private concerts linked to Gaddafi who is now being investigated for his involvement in possible war crimes.
