DEBUT ALBUM DEAD CAPITAL OUT FEBRUARY 23RD

PLAYING LIVE WITH FULL BAND FEBRUARY 28TH – SEBRIGHT ARMS

“Stories of love lost, ambition thwarted… told by a master storyteller with a voice like rolling thunder." - GQ

London based Dubliner Louis Brennan has revealed the stirring video for ‘Airport Hotel’, the latest single to be taken from his forthcoming debut album, Dead Capital. The video premiered with Clash, who said “Brooding of voice and intense of lyric, his ability to twist and turn a simple phrase can render the most innocent line into something utterly heartbreaking”.

‘Airport Hotel’ is a beautifully poignant ballad around a passionate encounter, and as always, is imbued with the allegory and sensitive metaphor that characterise his writing. His brooding baritone juxtaposes the soft folk guitar and jarring strings, before opening up into an impassioned second chorus, full of aching, strained emotion.

The video is a deeply atmospheric visualisation of the track, featuring shots of grey monotony juxtaposed with passion and lust between two male lovers. A dark and cold aesthetic maintained throughout is a subtle implication of the secrecy and guilt alluded to in the narrative, while lyrically referencing the repression of a loveless marriage.

Images of carnal passion intercut with the emptiness of the hotel lounge imply a longing for satisfaction before returning to shots of both characters alone in cold reality: “…there’s nothing left to say, just the sound of your voice / I say I’ll never leave her, as if I had a choice”.

Brennan’s sound calls to mind Father John Misty, Conor Oberst, John Grant and Johnny Cash with the lyrical command of troubadours like Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave.

Creating his own brand of thinking man’s folk, Louis’ music is deep and rich in emotion, marking him out as an artist of remarkable talent and immeasurable depth of mind. His lyrics are also razor-sharp, bittersweet and often full of wry humour.

Louis will be playing a Dead Capital album launch show at the Sebright Arms in Hackney on 28th February. Tickets are available here.
