Phil Collins , the multi talented singer, actor and drummer, has announced his retirement from the entertainment industry.

Famed for his work as both a solo artist and as a member of the hugely successful band Genesis, there had been rumours of his impending retirement for several days, however an official announcement on his website confirmed that her would be retiring.

Taking a step back and retiring is not because of poor press or reviews said Phil Collins who posted the message to clear up the conflicting reports.

“Why they were printed at all is a mystery, as I haven't spoken to anybody in the press for a few months,” he said.

He added: “I am stopping so I can be a full time father to my two young sons on a daily basis.”

In reference to claims that he was stopping music making because he had grown tired of bad press he said: “Some of the things mentioned above have been said be me in various interviews, but as asides with a smile on my face and in passing. Thy were not meant to be headlines, they were small parts of conversations. This clearly doesn't come over in print and I should know better.”

In the statement there was no mention of any health problems that were behind him hanging up his sticks.
