Despite having a history spanning 41 years and a huge fan base, The Damned has never actually had a record in the Top 10 of the UK Album Charts.
That’s all about to change for the punk rock icons, as their new album, “Evil Spirits” has impressive mid-week sales figures, having been released on April 13.
This is the band’s first album release for ten years, and an epic video has been filmed for the new single “Look Left”, recorded at the renowned Camden venue, Koko.
Frontman Dave Vanian is immensely proud of the new material and has paid tribute to the band’s followers: “A huge thanks to the fans, of course, without which this record would never have been made. It feels amazing to finally get it out there.”
The album was recorded in New York and produced by Tony Visconti, known for his work with T-Rex, David Bowie and Thin Lizzy amongst others. Dave Vanian was happy to get him on board, saying: “We had a meeting and I knew straight away that he would be the right man for the job. He had the right attitude and everything.”
Initially formed in 1976, today’s line-up still includes three of the original members – lead vocalist Dave Vanian, guitarist Captain Sensible and drummer Rat Scabies. They have recently recruited bassist Paul Gray who played with them for two years in the late 70’s.
The band will be out on the road in June supporting the Hollywood Vampires – an American supergroup comprising Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry, named after a celebrity drinking club. The Damned will then be performing their own headline shows in August, starting in Southampton.
