Booker T. Jones is best remembered for his hit record “Green Onions”, performing as Booker T. and the MG’s, but he actually has over 50 years in the music industry. He is a renowned multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter, and the book will explore his personal history and landmarks in his music career.

Starting with his formative years in the segregated city of Memphis, Tennessee, he will go on to discuss his time with Stax Records and offer a behind the scenes look at the music industry.

Jones has said: “In life, you do things one moment at a time. That’s what I want to share with readers – how each step of my winding, rocky road has led me to where I am today.”

Jones’ career in professional music began at age 16, playing baritone saxophone on the hit single “Cause I Love You” by Carla and Rufus. He formed Booker T. and the MG’s in 1963, co-writing their classic instrumental “Green Onions”, which featured in the film “Quadrophenia.”

Jones still enjoys making music today and has said: “I think of musicians as a brotherhood with a purpose, and our purpose is being realised right now, so if I have anything to say, it’s about that: what music means to people, what we can give people with our work, whether they use it for pleasure, or for spiritual events, weddings or just living day to day.”

Chapters in the book will cover his time as leader of the Stax Records house band, his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and his collaboration with Wilson Pickett, Neil Young and Willie Nelson.

The memoir is, as yet, untitled and will be released in the Autumn, with an audiobook version also available.
