Half Japanese, half New Zealander multi-hyphenate musician, composer and live remixer Mark de Clive-Lowe brings his sounds to Little Tokyo’s Blue Whale jazz club for three consecutive nights June 22, 23, 24 - premiering brand new music and revisiting last year’s Mirai no Rekishi project - all to be recorded live for his next album.

This year alone, the half-Japanese half-New Zealander LA transplant has performed in Australia, NZ, the UK, throughout Japan, Detroit, Oakland, San Francisco and of course, here in Los Angeles. From improvising with classical Japanese musicians in Nara to rocking the dancefloor for a rooftop party overlooking LA’s sunset, Mark lives to blur the lines between genres and dispel every preconception. The last time he hit the Blue Whale was for two sold-out nights with his tribute to Pharoah Sanders, and now he’s bringing his keyboards, drum machine and samplers back along with some of his favorite musicians and live VJs  - performing music largely inspired by his motherland connection to Japan. Blending jazz, Japanese heritage, beats, electronics, live sampling and more, Mark creates intoxicating layers of sound and improvisation masterfully crafted on-the-fly into whole new worlds of possibility.

Over the three nights Mark will be joined by a rotating cast of his favorite LA musicians from night to night including Josh Johnson (sax/flute), Teodross Avery (sax), Brandon Eugene Owens (bass), Brandon Combs (drums) and Carlos Niño (percussion). With two sets each night, all six hours of new live music will be recorded for future release. Having released his EP last year recorded live at the Blue Whale, Mark explains, “it’s one of my absolute favorite places in the world to play - there’s something about that room that makes me hear the music differently and entices the audience to join me in my imagination.”
