In a move that's been a long time coming, Shetland rockers Forgotten Sons are finally leaving their island hideaway for a short tour of the mainland this week, which precedes the release of their new single on September 3rd.

The four-piece from Lerwick contains former members of Oscar Charlie and The Last, and play punchy, punk-infused rock and roll that owes as much to Springsteen and The Gaslight Anthem as it does to their upbringing in the far north. They formed in 2015 and released their debut EP, Just So You Know in October 2016.

They signed a five year deal with Animal Farm records in 2017, putting out anthemic single Leave The Light On in November that year. The group sure know their way around a tune as most recent track Ragged Sails High showed back in March, with a thumping intensity matched by buoyant, emotional delivery from singer Robert 'Birdy' Burgess who delivered the song's serious message about mental health with sensitivity and style.

Burgess is joined in the group by his The Last bandmate, drummer John Gair, as well as guitarist Sandy Middleton - who was a member of Juvenile Delinquents with the singer - and bass player John Valentine.

The video for new single, Pennies In The Water, will premiere next week, and early teasers suggest another stark, affecting but melodic track. Before the song drops the band will make their rare foray south for a tour which includes three dates in Scotland, and two shows in the Orkney Islands - Shetland's near neighbours... well, they're only seven hours away on the ferry as opposed to the mainland's fourteen!

The gigs will include support from acts such as WRTHLESS, Gordon James and the Power, Park Circus & Forgetting The Future and kick off with an appearance at The Box in Glasgow tomorrow, Wednesday 29th August, before two shows in the highlands then a jaunt to the Orkney Rock Festival.
