In a first for a Lancashire rock band, Massive Wagons’ new record ‘Full Nelson’ has broken into the UK Top 40, hitting number 16 in its first week in the chart.

It’s an outstanding achievement for a band who have gone from strength to strength in recent years. The album was released on Earache Records, home to The Temperance Movement, Rival Sons and Blackberry Smoke, and also scored #1 in the UK Rock Chart, #2 in the Indie Chart, and #4 in the Vinyl Chart.

Massive Wagons guitarist Adam Thistlethwaite commented, ‘This is gonna take some time to truly sink in.  The bar was set high at hitting the top 40, well, that target was smashed and then some!  To hit the top 20 at number 16.. it’s just incredible. We have worked hard, but it’s down to the collective efforts of our team, the support of our families and the ever-growing army of supporters who do us proud at every turn, this victory belongs to all of us, we did this together.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.’

The band have played live relentlessly throughout 2018 – including appearances at Download, Campden Rocks and a sell-out gig at London’s Borderline – and will be performing new songs such as the out-and-out rocker Under No Illusion, the emotional Northern Boy and the crushing Robot at further upcoming shows, including a four-date run supporting heavyweight rock n’ roll supergroup The Dead Daisies.

Says frontman Baz Mills, ‘These four shows with the Dead Daisies are going to round off in spectacular fashion probably our most productive year yet. I think the music of both bands will provide fans with exciting explosive shows. It’s gonna be a good time: riff-laden, bang your head as hard as you can pure rock ‘n’ roll madness! Thanks to the guys for having us along: Liverpool, Oxford, and Islington are gonna get it. Rest assured!’

The band also hit the headlines recently after a massive mural depicting the new album cover was unveiled on the wall of a pub in their hometown. Despite proving popular with fans and locals alike the local council demanded the artwork be removed due to a lack of planning permission. After a petition to keep the mural was signed by over 6000 fans the local authority agreed to let it stay in place, and assist the band and venue in getting retroactive clearance for it.

Mills explained the importance of the art to the Lancaster Guardian newspaper, ‘The mural for us, is a celebration of what can be achieved. We are so proud of our city and we want other young musicians from Lancaster to draw inspiration from it.’ (Source: https://www.lancasterguardian.co.uk/news/council-agrees-to-leave-lancaster-band-s-mural-in-place-1-9257599)
