In a world where differences – whether physical or ideological – are emphasized more than ever, it’s more important now to have artists speak their truth and bring awareness to the various societal flaws. So, when Escape the Fate released their song, I Am Human, it had a strong impact on both existing fans and newcomers.
Now, the band has released the official music video for the song and it’s just as powerful as the song itself. The video, directed by Robyn August, features people from all walks of life – a former teacher who’s now homeless, a proud nerd, a same-sex couple and many others. And, despite their clear differences in not only physical appearances but also beliefs, they all have one thing in common – the need for self-acceptance and self-love. And that’s what I Am Human is all about.
“This video and song mean a lot to me. Having gone through abuse myself and suffering from mental health issues, I want people to know that you can come out stronger and by being more accepting of one another, we can do that together,” Escape the Fate frontman Craig Mabbitt explains. “We all have a story to tell. We can all try harder to live our lives from a place of love and understanding. We all have these abilities because we are all human. ‘I Am Human’ is my testament to that.”
However, the fight for self-love and understanding doesn’t stop here. Throughout the month of September, Escape the Fate will ask fans from around the world to share their stories through the crowdsourcing content app, Cinebody. The various stories will be meshed together to form what will eventually become the I Am Human 2 music video. Fans can simply download the app, sign up with email or Facebook, enter the code “human” and start uploading their videos, showcasing their personal struggles, victories and dreams. Fans have until 15 October to submit their videos, and a number of prizes will be given to some of the stand-out videos.
Android fans can download the app here, while Apple users can grab the app from the App Store.
The entire I Am Human album is now available through Better Noise Records, while you can also stream the album through any of the following streaming platforms.
Meanwhile, Escape the Fate is already in full-on tour mode as they take on North America alongside Slaves, Famous Last Words, Picturesque and Set to Stun. For more info on ticket sales, upcoming tour dates and more, you can visit the Escape the Fate website or follow them on Facebook.
