It’s been another incredible year for Scotland’s finest melodic hard rockers, and they aim to cap it off in style with a series of live shows up and down the country. The Glasgow based band have sold over 1 million albums since forming in 1987, and had hits with songs like Better Days, Steal Your Fire and their ubiquitous Cameo cover, Word Up, while touring the world with bands like The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi and Def Leppard.
After a hiatus in the 00’s, recent years have seen the reformed GUN hit new heights with a string of acclaimed albums since bass player Dante Gizzi switched to lead vocals for 2012 album ‘Breaking The Silence.’ Gizzi is still partnered in the band by his guitar-playing brother, Jools, and these days they are joined by the energetic trio of Andy Carr (bass), Paul McManus (drums) and Tommy Gentry (guitar).
The five-piece’s latest album, 2017’s Favourite Pleasures, scored the band’s highest chart position since 1992’s Gallus, bursting into the UK Top 20 at number 16. The hook-filled, anthem packed record also scored highly with critics with the thumping title track and contemplative single The Boy Who Fooled The World proving particular highlights.
2018 has seen the band take ‘Favourite Pleasures’ on the road and they’ve spent the summer wowing festival crowds including a showstopping performance headlining the King Tut’s stage at Glasgow’s TRNSMT festival, just ahead of the legendary group Queen taking to the main stage.
Their most recent single is the rollicking Take Me Down for which the band released a cinematic storyboard video with an intriguing storyline and dark undertones, “I think with this latest Gun video we took the conscious decision to stray from the conventional rock video with live band performance” says frontman Dante Gizzi, “We wanted a new challenge with a strong edgy storyline which I’m sure will grasp the viewers’ attention from the off. The video has a Film Noir feel to it inspired with a blend of True Romance meets Bonnie & Clyde. It’s about the ultimate betrayal of a couple who commit a burglary which goes horribly wrong. We wanted to put a twist in it, in regards to how far they would go for money even if it meant destroying their relationship.”
