Devon Allman and Duane Betts

In a natural continuation of their own recent work together, and the legacy of their families, Devon Allman and Duane Betts have announced the formation of their new group, The Allman Betts Band. The sons of Allman Brothers Band legends Gregg Allman and Dicky Betts, respectively, have played together a lot in recent years with Duane Betts appearing as special guest with the Devon Allman Project on recent tours. The announcement of their official partnership feels like a no-brainer.

The new band cunningly features the same initials, ABB, as their father's group which was led by vocalist/keyboard player Gregg Allman from 1969 to 2014 (he passed away in 2017) and also famously featured Devon Allman's celebrated uncle, Duane Allman, who tragically died in a motorcycle accident in 1971. Dicky Betts, meanwhile, played with the group from 1969 to 2000, taking over as the group's sole guitarist following Duane Allman's death.

Devon Allman and Duane Betts have continued to honour their heritage while forging their own successful careers, with the Allman Betts Band the next logical step in both.

The links to the Allman Brothers Band run deep, with the Allman Betts Band also featuring Berry Oakley Jr. (son of Berry Oakley, the original Allman Bros bassist) and the group's set list slated to feature songs by the Allman Brothers in honour of the 50th anniversary of that band. These classics will be played alongside cuts from both lead members' solo projects as well as new music.

Rounding out the line up will be slide guitarist Johnny Stachela and percussionists R. Scott Bryan (Sheryl Crow) and John Lum, both of whom also play with Devon in the Devon Allman Project while the upcoming record will also feature Gregg Allman's Hammond B3 player, former Allman Brother's keyboardist (currently with The Rolling Stones) Chuck Leavell.

The debut album from The Allman Betts Band is set for release in March 2019. So far the group have announced a set of US Tour dates, which are as follows:

Mar 29 - Plymouth, NH @ Flying Monkey PAC
