RHYE, the R&B influenced psychedelic Canadian and Danish brings its unique sound to Mexico City and Monterrey, two of the largest cities of the country, making music fans excited as it is the first time they visit the country. RHYE, the R&B influenced psychedelic Canadian and Danish brings its unique sound to Mexico City and Monterrey, two of the largest cities of the country, making music fans excited as it is the first time they visit the country.

RHYE will tour with heir newest record “Blood” being the centerpiece of their shows, Blood was released on February 2018, and features tracks such as “Stay Safe” and “Song for You.” These tracks were greatly successful among their fans and also new listeners, with the latter gathering nearly 9.5 million listens in Spotify, as of 7/12/2018. The genre in which RHYE bases their sound is very mixed and really takes a lot from different genres.

The most obvious cues are R&B, when we listen to the rhythmical atmosphere that drives their sound forward, almost reminiscent of funk bands like Vulfpeck, but toned down to a darker style that has really forged their style. We can definitely hear some synth-rock influences, typical of Tame Impala or Glass Animals, but what is special is the way synthesizers are rarely the centerpiece of the songs, which is taken by the beautiful voice performances, drenched in reverb. This results in a very spacey sound, which combined with the lyrics gives out a unique vibe, as if Cigarettes After Sex decided to do danceable music.

In November 16, the Canadian/Danish duo showed that they are welcoming of innovation and new additions to their sounds, with the release of Blood Remixed, a collection of reimaginations of their previously commented album “Blood.” Blood Remixed obtained mixed responses from fans, obviously never being as successful as the original release, but there are definitely some tracks well worth listening to if you are a fan of RHYE and are looking for some different takes on their sound. In conclusion, the duo features a truly unique sonic landscape, never painted before by other bands in the indie or pop scene.

RHYE is expected to be better known in America as their tour progresses. As we have seen with other bands recently, such as Alt-J, the indie scene rewards innovation and new sounds with more loyal fans and Spotify listens, which this band is definitely bringing to the table with this new record. Definitely check their music out if you have not listened to RHYE; both records are equally as unique, so prepare to be surprised and enjoy the listen, perhaps you’ll find yourself at the next concert they do near you.
