HMV to expand into music technology hardware
- in Latest
For years HMV was one of the leading music retailers on the British high street, however changes in the ways that people now buy and listen to music have seen the company slump recently.
In a bid to win back customers the retailer has announced plans to increase its presence in the technology hardware market and to boost this they have appointed a new technology boss with further signings planned for the future.
Gary Warren, the commercial director for HMV said that the company intends to expand its technical team to make the company a more diverse business as the former head of technology for Comet, Ewan Pinder, is brought in to oversee the expansion.
Gary Warren said: “This appointment further underlines HMV's intent and commitment to develop and grow its technology offer as a key part of its overall product mix. We have always sought to get our customers closer to music, film and games they love but while we are generally known for our content, there is absolutely no reason why consumers shouldn't also look to us for the technology that enables its consumption and enjoyment.”
He added that the move was in essence going back to the roots of the company: “When you think that the HMV brand was among the very first to take entertainment into people's homes by manufacturing and stocking the earliest gramophones, radiograms and TV sets.”
