U2 break touring record

in Latest

Irish rockers U2 have broken the record for the biggest grossing tour with their latest trip on the road with the 360º tour.

The band, comprising lead singer Bono with guitarists The Edge, Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jnr have broken the record previously set by the Rolling Stones with their Bigger Bang tour between 2005 and 2007.

The Rolling Stones took a massive $558 million on their tour however, U2 have gone better and over taken the music legends to go down history themselves with their 360º tour.

U2 first began their 360º tour back in July 2009 with a concert in Barcelona and are currently playing to crowds in South America.

Already more than seven million tickets have been sold for the tour which has seen the band perform 110 concerts, however there are still a further 27 dates to be completed with the final being on July 30 at Magnetic Hill in Monton in the US.

According to Billboard Boxscore, by the end of the tour the band will have taken around $700 million, smashing the previous record by a garden mile and some.

The band have been treating fans to renditions of songs both old an new while on their worldwide tour and last night was no exception with the concert goers in São Paulo being treated to performance of Zooropa. This is the first time that U2 have played the song live since 1993 and led to the term Zooropa trending across the world.
