NN North Sea Jazz Festival Announces Second Wave Of Artists For 2019

Returning to the Ahoy Centre in Rotterdam from 12-14th July, the North Sea Jazz festival have announced a second wave of international stars for their 44th edition, including multiple GRAMMY Award-winner Anita Baker, who will be making her debut at the festival as part of her 2019 farewell tour.

Anita Baker, Macy Gray, Daryl Hall & John Oates, José James, Chick Corea, Jacob Collier, Mahalia, Poppy Ajudha, Samm Henshaw and more join heavyweight line-up at this summer’s event

An impressive array of international stars will be joining the soul star across the weekend, including R&B queen Macy Gray, the best-selling music duo in history Daryl Hall & John Oates, US soul vocalist José James presenting his Bill Withers project “Lean On Me” with the Noordpool Orkest, 70s funk-rock outfit Tower Of Power and 22-time GRAMMY-winning Chick Corea together with his new eight-piece Latin formation The Spanish Heart Band.

This string of heavy-weight names join previously announced acts from across the worlds of jazz, soul, blues, hip-hop, RnB and more, including much-adored Chicago rapper Chance The Rapper, trailblazing hit-maker Janelle Monáe, Grammy-winning superstar Ms. Lauryn Hill, contemporary jazz pioneer Kamasi Washington, long-standing musical legend Burt Bacharach, iconic jazz stars Diana Krall and multi-million selling Jamie Cullum, the legendary rock/pop group Toto, unrivalled solo-voice master Bobby McFerrin and British soul powerhouse Rag’n’Bone Man.

The festival will once again offer a selection of the best artists coming out of the UK, including London-born musical prodigy Jacob Collier, BBC Sound of 2019 and Brits critics’ choice nominee Mahalia, neo-soulstress Poppy Ajudha and trailblazing jazz sextet Maisha, as well as fellow genre-blending US comrades including multi-instrumentalist and producer Sly5thAve, up-coming gospel artist Samm Henshaw and New Orleans funk collective Tank and the Bangas to add to the likes of The Internet, H.E.R, Jacob Banks and Masego.

Less than an hour’s plane-ride away or a direct train from London St Pancras, the North Sea Jazz Festival is easily accessible from the UK and has built an unrivalled reputation since its inception in 1976 as one of the most unique and eclectic events in the musical calendar. Having played host to the likes of jazz greats Miles Davis and Ray Charles all the way through to D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Jamiroquai and Earth, Wind and Fire, the North Sea Jazz Festival is a legendary event unlike any other and will this year present more than 1000 musicians in over 150 performances across its 3 days.
