Following on from last week's bombshell news that Scottish rockers The Amorettes had waved farewell to the McKay sisters - their longstanding rhythm section - a further stunning announcement has been made to continue the developing saga.

Last week The Amorettes singer/guitarist Gill Montgomery made it clear that she would be continuing with the band, and now we know just how she's going to do that - at least in the short term. By amazing coincidence Australian all-girl rock trio Tequila Mockingbyrd recently lost their singer/guitarist Louisa Baker at the tail end of last year, leaving only drummer Josie O'Toole and bassist Jacinta Jaye in place.

It has now been announced in separate posts on both group's social media, and in a press release from their joint record company Off Yer Rocka, that the two groups will combine to fulfill each others current commitments. There has in fact been some social media speculation about the possibility since The Amorettes' news last week, but in an unusual move the two bands won't be forming a new 'supergroup' but instead playing separate shows as The Amorettes and Tequila Mockingbyrd.

The power-trio format of both bands will also be getting a shakeup as Aaron Buchanen & The Cult Classics guitarist Laurie Buchanan will also be joining them to add something extra to both sets of gigs.

The Amorettes' Gill Montgomery: "The Amorettes will be going ahead with all shows that are currently in place. To do this, it gives me huge pleasure to announce that I will be joining forces with the awesome Josie O'Toole and Jacinta Jaye from Tequila Mockingbyrd. The girls will be pulling ranks as the new rhythm section and I am stoked to have these ladies on board for these up and coming shows.

In ADDITION, we have the wonderful Laurie Buchanan from Aaron Buchanan and the Cult Classics joining in on guitar/bass to add some extra spice to the mix for the shows ahead!

I shall ALSO be standing in on guitar and vocals for Tequila Mockingbird for all of their up and coming shows! Life is too short, so let's keep it interesting..."

Meanwhile Tequila Mockingbyrd released the following statement: "By some miracle of fate, we find ourselves missing a singer/guitarist at precisely the same time that The Amorettes find themselves missing a drummer and bassist. When the universe sends you a sign like that you can’t ignore it. So we’re absolutely delighted to reveal that we are joining forces!

We are SO excited for the next chapter. As long time fans and admirers of The Amorettes this is really something quite special and we hope you enjoy it as much as we know we will.

We have therefore postponed auditions for a new singer/guitarist for now. Thank you and big love to all the insanely talented humans who applied… We hope you understand that we’re going to give this a crack and see where it takes us!"

Sounds like this might even end up being a longer term thing... For now both bands have extensive tour dates ahead to test out the new line ups. For ticket info go to - http://www.theamorettes.com/site/#gigs and http://www.tequilamockingbyrdband.com/updated/tourdates/
