If you haven’t already, you will probably be hearing a lot from up-and-coming singer Ella Mai who hails from London. Last week she scooped 3 Billboard Music Awards and the 24 year old has already reached number 5 in the US for her hit single – ‘Boo’d Up. More importantly however, is her nomination for two Grammy Awards and the British Breakthrough Act at the 2019 BRIT AWARDS.

Ella Mai’s quirky style and swagger caught the attention of Vogue Magazine and they awarded her the Red Carpet for the most interesting hairstyle for the night. However, on a more serious note, she was nominated for and in addition for the BEST HAIR, her song Boo’d up won the category for ‘ Top R&B artist, female artist, album and to top it, best song at the Billboard Music Awards - proving to be a real success in the USA.

Incredibly Ella Mai has been elevated from a newbie to a star overnight. However, this young starlet has plans to spark change with her fame too. She partnered with North Face the organization that encourages to disconnect from technology in the hopes of conserving energy. She was quoted as saying ‘I don't think enough young people are as interested as they should be in stuff like Earth Day," Mai told Billboard earlier this week. "Like turning off your lights for the day or turning off the tap when you're brushing your teeth 'cause that stuff makes a difference. Not enough people care about it, and this is our planet." Ella shines a light on the things that truly matter and in this context, Earth Day. But back to the music…

Back to the music…

Being invited to perform at Coachella blew her away and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Khalid and other superstars, and this in the very early stages of her career.

She says:

"I feel like Coachella is so nerve-wracking 'cause it's like the biggest stage for a festival that you can really be on. So I was super excited to be a part of it, but it was even better than I imagined it. All my friends flew in from London, and I was on Friday. So I got to enjoy the weekend on Saturday and Sunday 'cause I didn't have to worry about performing. I performed on Friday, which was incredible. The crowd was incredible. I had so much fun”.
