When you have opened for a band like Red Hot Chilli Peppers you must know that you’re well on your way to becoming someone, and if your fan base includes Quincy Jones, then you have got to be a top drawer act.
His latest song, which is called Money (short song) sees Louis playing a multitude of instruments. Obviously heavily talented, the colorful novelty video starts with 6 shots of him playing each instrument all in one video clip. This includes vocals, keys, vocals and backing vocals, percussion (clap), guitar then progresses to a multi-shot performance of impressive prominent slap bass and vocals. Fit within a retro VHS type look, the equipment looks rather basic. The sound produced is a dreamy atmospheric vibe with strong harmonies.
If anything, the video is a great education piece which shows every layer of the song in collage format. When delving into his other videos, we see interesting this format on other songs too.
Louis Cole studied Jazz and linked up with Genevieve Artadi who had also studied music and the two of them including Robby Marshall started jamming together and they finally released their first album in 2010. Although they link occasionally at concerts, they are all very much independent musicians that collaborate from time to time.
They initially started doing some covers, namely Britney Spear’s song “3’, which they uploaded onto YouTube, however Louis then went on to release his first album, collaborating with Genevieve Artadi.
Louis Cole is a singer drummer and has released his third album Time, which was released in late 2018 via Brainfeeder. His genre can be described as funk-pop-fusion and is known as a future-sonic funk drummer, quite a feat.
His song “Bank Account” became the game changer for Louis Cole and it went viral. He was quoted as saying “I honestly thought nobody was going to care about that song. I just put it up because I wanted to show people that I had been practicing keyboard," he laughs. "I came up with that four chord progression and all I wanted to do in that moment was be good at that four chord progression... I didn't care about anything else. Then I was driving to a gig, and I just came up with those lyrics because they were absolutely true at that time." It went viral, and he hasn't looked back.
