Alan Mcgee’s new label Creation 23 confirmed the signing of Fife four-piece Shambolics last month.

McGee – who famously ran Creation Records and signed some of the biggest bands of the 1980s and 1990s including Oasis, Primal Scream and Teenage Fanclub – called the Fife four-piece a band with a “knack for artfully honed and irresistibly dreamy rock and roll.”

He signed the outfit after they played on his question and answer tour of small venues back in April and he caught a live show of theirs in Edinburgh.

Comprised of Darren Forbes (vocals/guitar), Lewis McDonald (vocals/guitar), Jordan McHatton (vocals/bass) and Jake Bain (vocals/drums), Shambolics have been turning heads and winning fans with their melodic yet swaggering sound that has earned them comparisons with The Stone Roses and The La’s.

With tracks like My Time Is Now and When She Goes Home it’s easy to see why. Their sound is a raucous, reverb-laden romp that is as catchy as it is confident. When She Goes Home has amassed over 250,000 plays on Spotify alone, and with McGee’s experience now behind them, you can expect that count to rise.

Formed in Kirkcaldy in 2016, Shambolics enjoyed a meteoric rise, culminating with winning the Scottish Alternative Music Award for Best Rock/Alternative Act in 2017, edging out Rascalton, Pure Grief and Medicine Man.

However, a difficult period followed for the band in 2018 during which the line-up changed with Bain replacing Andrew Findlay on drums. However, with festival appearances at Reading and Isle of Wight, as well as sell out gigs across Scotland, they have bounced back in style and now seem ready to break through.

Other acts under the stewardship of Creation 23 include Rubber Jaw, The K’s, and The Clockworks, with the label set to release a Shambolics single on vinyl later this year.

You can catch them at Glasgow’s newest festival Indian Summer 002 at The Shed on August 30th.
