Fresh from signing a deal with LA-based label ANTI- Records in April, offbeat folk singer and songwriter Darrin Bradbury has revealed that his new album Talking Dogs & Atom Bombs will be released on September 20th.
Kenneth Pattengale – one half of American duo Milk Carton Kids – has produced the album, which Bradbury recorded in Nashville in just two days, while the cover artwork was created by New York-born artist Henry Glovinsky.
Country star Margo Price – a long-time champion of Bradbury’s music – contributes vocals on The Trouble With Time, while Jeremy Ivey provides bass and piano, Alex Munoz contributes backing guitars, and Dillon Napier plays drums.
The album is preceded by a lead single – also titled Talking Dogs & Atom Bombs – which is a delightful refrain that features weathermen, talking animals, and more about a microwave oven than you’ve probably ever heard in a song before.
It’s reflective of Bradbury’s ability as a songwriter that he can take such a mundane everyday item, and weave into it a rich story told with great wit in less than three minutes.
It’s a talent that was on show in his previous work Elmwood Park: A Slightly Melodic Audiobook and earned that release some great reviews.
Describing Talking Dogs & Atom Bombs, Bradbury wrote on Facebook:
The album as a whole is intended for early morning conversation over coffee – a soundtrack to a day filled with nothing and everything all at the same time. On this one, I tried to look depression in the eye just to see if I could make it laugh a little.”
