Everyone’s favourite indie pop twin sister duo Tegan and Sara have released new single I’ll Be Back Someday, and confirmed details of their upcoming ninth studio album Hey, I’m Just Like You. 

The new album – released via Sire Records and produced by Alex Hope – will be out on September 27th.

The record will be something of a time capsule for fans of the Canadian band as it features new versions of songs the duo wrote back during their school days. 

“We recorded over 40 songs when we were in high school. But the cassettes were lost. Unheard for 20 years. In 2019, while writing our memoir High School, they were found,” the pair wrote on Facebook.

“Rediscovered, reimagined, rerecorded – the new Tegan and Sara record is made up entirely of new studio recordings of those lost songs.”

That memoir – High School – is also scheduled for an autumn release and will hit the shelves on September 24th. 

Hey, I’m Just Like You has been recorded with an entirely female team of musicians, alongside Hope’s production. Carla Azar plays drums, and Catherine Hiltz contributes bass guitars, while Rachael Findlen Beatriz Artola, Emily Lazar and Annie Kennedy have engineered, mixed and mastered the album.

Tegan and Sara have also announced a 24-date North American tour spanning September, October and November in support of the album and memoir. Shows will feature mostly acoustic performances, as well as readings from their memoir and some archive video footage.
