South-coast six-piece Red River Dialect have announced that their upcoming fifth album Abundance Welcoming Ghosts will be released through Paradise Of Bachelors on September 27th.

The album will be preceded by lead single Snowdon, which features guest vocals from Kentucky singer-songwriter Joan Shelley.

Named for the highest mountain in Wales (This is the closest point in Wales to heaven, the closest point to heaven in Wales, calls out lead singer David Morris on the track), Snowdon is a brooding, rich, and suspenseful number that builds on Red River Dialect’s growing reputation for finely crafted contemporary folk-rock with beautifully observed lyrics.

Recorded in just four days in August 2018 at Mwnci Studios in rural southwest Wales, it is a record that, according to the band’s label, sees Red River Dialect “finding fresh joy in their music, relaxing more deeply into a natural, playful confidence: tangling with the thickets, wading in the river, digging the peat, and disappearing into the mountains.”

After recording the album, Morris left the UK for a nine-month meditation retreat at a remote Buddhist retreat in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Now back on home shores, Morris and the rest of the band will be playing an album release show at Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston, London, on October 4th.

As well as Shelley’s support, joining the band on the record are guests including Tata Jane O’Neill, Ed Sanders, Coral Kindred-Boothby, Simon Drinkwater, Kiran Bhatt, and Robin Stratton.

The album is engineered and mixed by Jimmy Robertson, who has previously worked with Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, and Michael Chapman. The artwork for Abundance Welcoming Ghosts is by Jane Hope, and is inspired by the Welsh countryside.
