Scottish folk rock mainstays Belle and Sebastian have released a song called This Letter from their soon-to-be-released soundtrack for the film Days Of The Bagnold Summer, due out on September 13th through Matador Records.

The movie, which has been directed by The Inbetweeners star Simon Bird and is based on a graphic novel by Joff Winterhart, is due out next year.

This Letter, the second release from the soundtrack after a song named Sister Buddha was released from the 13-track soundtrack back in July, is a soft, finger-picked acoustic number with the band’s tell-tale lyrical power (All I want for you is joy and peaceful love / who you get it from is not my main concern).

Days Of The Bagnold Summer itself is a coming of age story about a teenager called Daniel, a big Metallica fan who is forced to spend the summer with his library-worker mum Sue after his plans for an exciting trip to the USA fall through at the last minute. It had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland this year.

The film – Bird’s directorial debut – stars Monica Dolan and Earl Cave in the lead roles, and features an appearance from Rob Brydon.

The soundtrack includes classic Belle and Sebastian tracks Get Me Away From Here I’m Dying (from 1996’s If You’re Feeling Sinister), I Know Where The Summer Goes (from 1998’s This Is Just A Modern Rock Song EP) and Safety Valve, as well as several new songs recorded by the band specifically for the movie.
