From appearances on the US version of The Voice to winning praise from Richard Branson and BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw, Scottish-born singer songwriter Natalie Clark has enjoyed something of a fairy tale journey to the release of her new EP, Head North.

It is her second offering, following her self-released debut EP Eagles, a record Clark recorded in her home country where she was working as a teacher. Consumed by her love for music though and determined to follow her dreams, Clark chose to walk away from her teaching career, moved halfway around the world, relocating to L.A., and began winning over fans and industry big wigs with her rich vocals, country-tinged pop sound, and sublime song-writing ability.

She’s been selected as a Mercedes Benz KTLA Artist to Watch, featured in a Mercedes Benz advert, been described as “incredible” by Blake Shelton, and praised for her “cool, powerful voice” by Christina Aguilera. Make no mistake, Head North is the work of an artist who is going places.

And from opening track Here, a soft piano-backed number dripping with highlights from Clark’s inspiring vocal range, it’s a varied record that delivers on that promise. Grown Ass Woman documents the struggles of trying to make it as a singer, with an edgy beat and catchy chorus, while Crossfire and Heaviest Low are tender, soulful, beguiling tracks. More Than A Mountain is the EP’s rockiest number, all swagger, crashing cymbals and skidding guitars, and a particular highlight.

Writing about Head North on her official Facebook page, Clark said:

I wrote them along this magical musical journey, from quitting my job as a teacher in Scotland to moving to London, and then L.A.! It’s been quite a ride so far and these songs capture the highs and lows and all the in-betweens that come from pursuing your dreams! It’s all worth it! I do hope that you connect with the songs and they make you feel things: like dancing, crying, love, joy, hope, inspiration! Anything!!!”

As Clark says, it’s been quite a ride. And you get the feeling there’s even more to come.
