James Morrison returns to the fold with yet another wholesome, passionate love song, demonstrating how exactly he has been able to build his career on the back of emotional, romantic ballads that serve both honesty as well as relatability for all his listeners.

This song, ‘So Beautiful’ was co-written almost ten years with Gary Barlow, the lead singer of fellow British musical act Take That, yet the themes being discussed through the words as well as the deeply affecting chords building throughout the tune render this song as relevant today as it was ten years ago, and possibly for all of eternity as well.

Morrison dedicates the soothing piano ballad to his wife, yet the moving, sincere lyrics of the song will certainly appeal to larger crowds, especially those hoping for some love and romance. It is poised to be a wedding number for years to come, with its beats, influences and styles reflecting the likes of Ed Sheeran’s discography as well as some of Coldplay’s most pop-heavy tracks. Through his latest album ‘You’re Stronger Than You Know’, Morrison has added yet another soulful compilation that could solidify his status as one of Britain’s underrated male pop artists in the past decade.

This particular melody is also benefited by his raw, grungy voice that sinks its teeth into those intense feelings of love, passion and admiration for his wife Gil. As soon as he strikes those elusive, powerful, overwhelming high notes in the bridge, the listeners are able to understand the depth of his words.

One of the most intriguing elements of the track is its steady but clever incorporation of country and blue-eyed soul genres, where the familiarity of pop and light rock is layered over undertones of folk and soul instrumentation.

Morrison had already made a name for himself due to his raspy vocal range that is perfectly suited for genres such as grunge and hard rock but his willingness into lending his voice for other genres displays how his musical identity has grown over the years. This intermingling of genres does not only make this particular song rich in flavour and style---it helps the album transcend through the genre-specific playlists and reach as many fresh listeners as possible.
