Field Music have confirmed their new album – the follow up to last year’s Open Here – will be released on January 10th 2020.

Titled Making A New World, it is a concept album that deals with Britain in the post-World War One period.  Earlier this year, the band were involved in a live show with the Imperial War Museum (IMW), described by IMW as an “exploration of the energy, hope and fragility brought about by the end of the First World War.”

Writing on their official website about the upcoming release, the band said: “Big news from FMHQ: We’ve accidentally made a new album – it’s called Making A New World and it’ll be out for your delectation in January 2020. And…err…it’s pretty much a concept album about the aftermath of the First World War. Wait! Come back! It’s not THAT kind of concept album! Honestly!

“We’ve done songs about ultrasound and about shooting yourself for the sake of art and about gender reassignment surgery and about Becontree housing estate. We’ve even done a party tune about sanitary pads, called Only In A Man’s World, which is now streaming in all of the usual places.”

Only In A Man’s World – the lead single taken from the new album – is accompanied by a video created by Kevin Dosdale from visuals taken from the collaboration with the IWM.

The band are also heading out on the road for a series of live shows across the UK in January and February 2020 in support of the new album.

Field Music was formed by brothers Peter and David Brewis in Sunderland in the early 2000s. They released their self-titled debut album in 2005, and their 2012 album Plumb was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Making A New World will be their eighth studio album.
