Mid week sales are pointing to Lady Gaga ending Adeles reign at the top of the UK album chart.

Born This Way by Lady Gaga has seen huge sales already this week and if these sales continue it will push the multi award winning 21 album by Adele off the number one spot.

The Official Charts company have said that by Wednesday Born This Way had already out sold all of the top 30 albums on the chart combined and they added that the album is on track to sell more than 250,000 copies in the first week, making it the biggest first week sales from on album this year.

Following the new surge of interest in Lady Gaga her first album The Fame has also come back into the chart at number six so far this week.

Martin Talbot from the Official Charts Company said: “Lady Gaga is certainly on a hot streak. After her record singles chart haul, she is now set to romp away with number one in the official album chart.

“Such a large first week dales number is very impressive, making this the most spectacular album arrival of the year so far.”

The hype surrounding the album release has seen unprecedented numbers of people trying to download the album from Amazon, combined with the online retailers putting the album up for sale for only 99 cents in the US on Monday.

By Monday afternoon the servers from the company stalled leaving many users unable to download the album or listen to it in full as there was a huge rush to purchase the highly anticipated album at the heavily discounted price.
