Alice Merton’s single off her upcoming second album ‘Easy’ is a quirky, delightful, soul-infused pop tune that shines a light on how the young singer-songwriter enchants her growing host of fans.

She invokes her charm, she lets out those raw, chilling vocals and she mixes in a little bit of the old with a healthy amount of the new to create what should be the most thrilling three minutes spent for any given listener. In ‘Easy’, Merton delves into multiple genres yet never lets any one style dominate over the track. The first verses hint at a little bit of catchy indie-folk, with double repeated piano chords and a lighthearted rhythm guitar bouncing off Merton’s silky voice. The electronic influences of contemporary pop are not to be missed; instead, they lift up the song with their deft production work. Then the pre-chorus features some prompt jazz before the soaring chorus in which Merton’s voice belts out through the speakers and lets the robotic ‘easy’ inject some wild groove into the composition.

This might be off Merton’s second album ‘Mint’ but she retains the innocence that allowed her to impress all those hearts off her debut. The lyric music video for this song itself is a wink to her personality that she reveals in snipped in the style of home videos; from the font of the words to the zoom-ins’ and outs’, the aesthetic is well-produced and hits the message loud and clear. Merton is not sure whether her relationship is a ‘masterpiece or a catastrophe’, and that confusion is relayed through the array of expressions, gestures, and mannerisms Merton demonstrates throughout the video.

As young and fresh as Merton may be to the music scene, she has signed on to be a coach on ‘The Voice Germany’, which should position her as a role model for multitudes of singers, performers, and artists out there. With a creatively-charged album out there as well as an extensive US tour announced, the coaching gig on the ‘The Voice’ is just the cherry on top as Merton expands her fame across the music industry on a global level.
