Sam Williams is following his family’s legacy with an impressive cover of ‘Weatherman’, a song originally released by his father Hank Williams Jr. in 1981. Footage for the video was taken from a live performance of Williams at the Shepherds Bush Empire in London. Prior to releasing the video, Williams commented in an interview that the London gig would be his biggest show to date, whilst on tour with singer Cam.

Sam puts his own spin on the song, recreating it with a unique sound, performing it as part of a slightly stripped-down arrangement, giving it more of an acoustic feel. Showcasing his distinctive and powerful vocals, the song could definitely become a solid sing-along ballad at his shows. The chilling live performance footage is caught perfectly, functioning as a memorable music video too. A studio recorded version of the song has also been released.

The song an obvious high point in Williams’ career, the singer states that this song is his first from his family’s catalogue but by the sound of it, it won’t be the last. It has already started gaining traction on Spotify and Youtube. At only twenty-two, Williams draws inspiration from other young artists including the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish and Miley Cyrus. Gifted with a great voice, Williams should have the sound and name behind him to help him flourish in the industry

His biggest influences are obviously his dad as well as his granddad - the legendary Hank Williams, who’s considered one of the most influential American singer-songwriters of the 20th century; his name is up there with greats such as Johnny Cash and other notable artists. His father Hank Williams Jr has his name strongly established in the country music scene, carrying on the legacy and name of his father.

Speaking about his new video, Williams said:

This live video marks a memorable time in my life and career,” said Williams. “It is the first song in my family’s catalogue I’ve covered, and my first time doing a live music video. ‘Weatherman’ means a lot to me. Getting to tour with Cam is something I never saw coming, and she became such an inspiration to me during the tour. Intimacy and truth shine through her show. She is always one hundred percent herself and I look up to her for it. I hope people see that in me in this video!”

Not afraid to experiment with his material, and showing interest in other genres of music, it is hard to predict the heights this young new talent will reach.
