The Script’s new album Sunsets and Full Moons is a striking, moving and unforgettable work of art that confirms the Irish band as one of the most wonderful, memorable acts to come out of Europe in the last decade or so.
Having first released music over twelve years now, their sixth album was released on 8th November and is already shaping up to be a highlight in their discography in terms of the emotional measures, the diverse composition as well as the instrumental stylings with which the majority of their fans have gotten familiar. The lead single ‘The Last Time’ is racking up incredible streaming figures on popular websites, and has been showcased on popular shows and venues all across the UK, helping the album garner more attention and admiration in the wake of its release.
The lead single holds all the attributes of The Script classic melody: power chords steadying the highs and lows of lead singer Daniel O’Donaghue’s terrific vocal performance, an intense chorus lifted up by amplification of its acoustic and rhythms guitars, and lyrical complexity as noted by the honesty, agony and depth of the feelings being conveyed. The album is said to be influenced by recent events in O’Donaghue’s life; having lost his mother while working on this album, this is not only crafted and produced in her honor but as a celebration of her relationship with her son. O’Donaghue has also revealed that this album is supposed to be perceived as a thematic sequel to their self-titled debut album, which in turn, was created in the wake of his father’s death. Those extreme tragedies may have shot another man down but it just reinvigorated the band’s creative energies, which poured out of them in the form of those truly splendid songs out of the album.
In addition to the lead single, they also refer to some rustic, country sounds, perhaps as a homage to their Irish roots, and manage to combine them with more contemporary pop forms; this is more evident in songs like ‘Hurt People Hurt People’ and ‘Underdog’. Ultimately, their fans will want to cherish this one, as it captures everything that made The Script the uplifting, positive and sweet band they are today.
The Script has also confirmed further dates on their 2020 tour.
