Wii Fan gamers were able to have a first look at the latest gaming console from Nintendo at the E3 games show in Los Angeles.

The new Wii handheld device has been much anticipated in the gaming world especially following the success of the innovative original Wii console which inspired an entire new game user to engage with the interactive device.

More unusually For music fans, the E3 games show was opened with a full orchestra a choir playing The Legend of Zelda's classic video games sound tracks. They even included some of the classic old out dated sound effects created with their musical instruments.

It is hoped by Nintendo that this new handheld Wii, which has been dubbed the Wii U, will prove to be as popular as the home version of the Wii and promises to hail a new era in gaming as the device is a cross between a traditional handheld device and one of the new generation tablets.

Nintendo demonstrated at the games show how the Wii U will feature a set top box, similar to the original Wii however the touchscreen controller will also have a front facing camera along with the usual buttons more commonly associated with the Wii remote.

Not only will the Wii U be good for gaming it will also be able to double as a device for making high definition video calls as well as being able to browse on the internet.

During demonstrations of the device at the show Nintendo showed just what the new device is capable of which includes the option to allow gamers to be able to see gameplay that is only featured on the device and not on the big screen with other players.

Another new feature will enable users to chose how they play their games, wither on the big screen, using the big screen with different images on the device or using the device alone to allow other people in the house to be able to watch television at the same time.

The Wii U is set to be available to buy from Spring 2012 although no price has been set yet by Nintendo.
