JC Stewart's been having quite a year: writing songs with hot acts like Lewis Capaldi, being named by MTV as 2020’s Ones to Watch, and getting recognition from some of the BBC's top radio presenters. His latest single ‘The Wrong Ones’ could not be timed any better for a mesmerizing breakout.

JC Stewart’s latest offering explores the trials and tribulations of various relationships as part of an attempt to find “the right one”. In this case, he wears his heart on the sleeve and pours out the honesty of his failed attempts wholeheartedly.

The track is an indie-pop ballad brimming with emotion, incorporating the gentle stylings of the acoustic guitar, with the composition fitting nicely amongst the type of music released by artists of today, which isn't dissimilar to some of Justin Bieber's work. The Wrong Ones provides a feel-good vibe throughout, which works in contradiction with the subject matter. Stewart's impressive and distinctive vocals shine throughout the track, with the catchy refrain “Why do I just keep falling for the wrong ones? Is it you or is it me?” being prominent throughout. Stewart's sound, in general, will be a pleasent listening experience for most. Hints of James Bay can also be heard in some of his songs. He is cited to have drawn influences from Bob Dylan, Dermot Kennedy, Hozier, and Tom Waits.

The Northern Irish singer-songwriter has already sent heads turning, which ultimately led to him landing a record contract with Warner Records. Now it seems the sky's the limit for the young artist, as he opened for Lewis Capaldi in Belfast just last week. The story is such: JC met Capaldi at a Hollywood party, where they instantly connected, and this led to conversations over a beer, which fuelled a middle-of-the-night songwriting session. The outcome is the song 'Hollywood', off Lewis Capaldi’s hit number-one debut album.

With his popular songs racking up millions of Spotify streams each, it seems he’s already established a strong foundation of keen listeners. Opening for acts like Capaldi can only strengthen this base, and it’s sure to get a lot of chins wagging about his name in terms of where he’s destined for next.

In addition to 'The Wrong Ones', Stewart has also released ‘Stay’, both of which were produced by Grammy-nominated Jonny Coffer. Next May, he will be embarking on his biggest tour to date, which will span across ten European venues
On this single, Stewart says:

The Wrong Ones is a song I wrote after a year of failed attempts at finding “the right one”. It’s essentially an account of the different people I came across and at the end wondering if maybe I was the issue the whole time”
