Singer Ava Max is on a roll! Following a breakout year in which she delivered some of the catchiest pop singles of the year, namely ‘Sweet but Pyscho’ and ‘So Am I’, she seeks to welcome the new decade with self-love and strength.

‘Salt’, the latest single in question, is bouncing with pumping disco beats from the seventies and eighties but manages to be grounded in Max’s soothing, well-measured vocal inflections. Max has always been unabashed in her depiction of womanhood and has encouraged other girls to be themselves, and she continues this streak of positivity with this heart-thumping number. This too urges young women to embrace themselves in the wake of stressful circumstances and tragedies, dropping references to Wonder Woman and Marilyn Monroe as her icons of femininity and boldness.

The track opens with robust strokes of the violin, as the retro beats introduce themselves alongside Ava Max’s invigorated vocals, ready for action and destruction. The strings play a significant role in sustaining the funky, disco vibes, and conveying the themes of the song through its slick, sexy instrumentation. The song was originally posted on the singer’s Soundcloud in 2018 but she chose to release it as an official song on December 13th, 2019. With its morals of girl power loud and clear, the pedigree of the song is also demonstrating that inclusion, with four of its songwriters being female. It is an exhilarating dance number, awash in pools of glitter, glamour, and confidence.

Max was born in Wisconsin, The United States of America but she is very moved and proud by her Albanian heritage, and endeavors to give back to the Albanian community as she can. With so many hits spread across the last two years, her fans must be clamoring for an album right about now, so it is really no surprise she is preparing to launch her debut album next year. She has been tight-lipped about this album, but she has shared some potential themes to be explored.

I don’t want to reveal too much but will continue to say that it’s all going to be focused around empowering pop that makes you want to go after your dreams and of course hit the dance floor.”
