Broken Witt Rebels’ invoke the winking griminess of classic rock in their new single ‘Money’, released on December 16 on Youtube.

The band oozes with the sleazy angst and devilish charm expected of the classic rock genre but they also dive into the soulful bend of the blues’ music, their interplay of multiple genres endearing them closer to existing and potential fans ahead of the release of their album OK Hotel. Although their sound is reminiscent of midwestern rock, with elements of alternative pop and dive thrown in, they actually hail from Birmingham, England. To close off their year, they have announced tour dates in their native country, with shows being scheduled at London’s 100Club and Wolverhampton’s Steelmill.

‘I live fast and strike lucky’ is not only the defining, recurring lyric of the song but the general motto upon which the themes are conveyed. The track is not only celebrating the fleeting nature of life; it is referring to the glimpses of happiness and satisfaction that only money can provide at times. The carelessness expressed through lead singer Danny Core’s enigmatic voice is ideal for the instrumentation, mostly consisting of electric guitars, drum machines, and some solid bass. Seeing how they only formed in 2014, it is astounding how sure they are of their musical identity. They pay homage to the spirit of classic rock yet maintain their own style derived from modern acts. Even their lyric video retains its sordid aesthetic, panning across darkened alleys and broker billboards, as they slither through the verses with aplomb.

Speaking on how they seek inspiration for their music, band member Luke Davies says:

I think most of our inspiration comes from real-l experiences at the minute. I guess until we’re at that point where we haven’t really got anything to write about it would be great to look through a newspaper for a theme or something, but at the minute there’s just so many things we’ve been through that provide us with inspiration.”

Seeing how they have been going through the festivals with ease, their listeners can be assured that they are an impressive act live, their performances in Leeds, Ramblin’ Man and Reading a testament to their potential.
