Daddy’s Girl will take you on an emotional journey that will make you appreciate your relationship with your parents or, for some, make you cherish every second you spend with your own children. With Christmas being a season for families and spending time with loved ones this song’s release feels deeply personal to EYELAR and her family.
The video shows clips of EYELAR and her father, who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident in Iran this year, whilst visiting relatives. The song was written before the sudden loss, but it has clearly provided the backdrop and emotion to a powerful piece that is musically strong and emotionally charged. The musicality is relatable on lots of levels. There is a repetitive chord progression that allows for a haunting melody line to sit above it. There is a lovely sentiment that comes with Daddy’s girl, but also a raw emotion shown in the lyrics.
The production is simple, with few instruments being used, but the clarity and balance works nicely to help get the message across. I particularly like the challenging vocal around the main hook, which shows EYELAR’s natural voice, giving the song added purity.
What hits home the more you listen, is that this is a song about loss, where EYELAR is writing about the love and happiness she shared with her Daddy, but cannot tell him anymore how much he means to her. I’ve listened to it about 8 times now and I’m starting to love it, I’m liking the melody, I’m hearing the emotion more and I’m seeing the story develop and I understand now what EYELAR wants her listener to feel in Daddy’s Girl.
