Review: Ten Fé’s Latest ‘Heaven Sent Me‘

Did Heaven send us a new masterpiece with Ten Fé? Ten Fé are London duo, Ben Moorhouse and Leo Duncan who are making their way in the music scene the traditional way.
Having met at a house party, they developed their skills busking and like many great bands spent time in Germany, further honing their skills as composers and recording artists. With comparisons already being made between their earlier releases and artists like The Verve or Richard Ashcroft, Heaven Sent Me is already going to excite Ten Fé’s fan base, but the New Year will also bring huge waves of new followers to the pair’s unique and classy work. Whilst their music is beginning to sound timeless, their whole image could well be taken from any decade of the last forty years, adding a certain familiarity with audiences of different generations.
From the first drum beat and hard guitar chord of Heaven Sent Me, you feel this track is going to take you to exciting places. When the smooth vocal line enters, you’re reminded of The Pet Shop Boys, with similar backing harmonies and subtle overdubbing of guitar. The balance and production transports you beautifully through a really interesting and exciting avenue for Ten Fé. The guitars carry a soft balance of reverb, treble and crunch, and blend with the harmonies wonderfully. When the track starts, I was confident this was a love song, but as the story develops, the tension builds, more instrumentation is added and the tone changes to make the listener sit up and think who Heaven has actually sent!
Whether Moorhouse and Duncan want you to feel a sense of happiness at the message of Heaven Sent Me, this song will play over and over in your mind. It will make you sing the title line, it will make you think about the purpose, but most importantly, it will make you realise you’ve heard a beautifully crafted song that showcases the talent of Ten Fé.
