Why Don’t We continue to solidify themselves as a legitimately brilliant, swoon-worthy boy band with their new song ‘Chills’.

Right off the bat, the listeners will perceive the style being reflective of the title; the tune is as soothing as a fresh breath of air, its acoustic guitar chords cutting through the silence in a suave, refreshing fashion. Quite appropriate, the music video, released on January 5th, takes place on snowy, woodland terrain, the boys garbed in winter clothes, trudging through the snow in unison. The song details an infatuation, the subsequent ‘chills’ that appear in the process of beginning to like someone. With themes as romantic and passionate as the one in question, it is no surprise seeing Why Don’t We build their reputation as an endearing, youthful boy band.

The most fascinating aspect of the band’s setup is how the boys manage to retain their individuality through their respective verses whilst maintaining their coordinated movements throughout the video. Their voices complement each other but still hold something distinct and appealing. Particular note must be directed towards Daniel Seavey, who lends his vocals for the second verse; Seavey’s voice is low, deep and infinitely mesmerizing. His solo performance, as brief as it may have been, steals the entire song. The constant strum of the guitar also continues to add a laid-back, grungy feel to the arrangement, whereas the music video occasionally leans on the psychedelic aesthetic to grip the audience.

Why Don’t We has revealed that they are working for a new album to be released in 2020. Their fans will be hoping that Chills is only a taste of what is to come from their impending work. In 2019, the band endeavored to release a new single every month, leaving a little gift for their fans at regular intervals. Speaking on this decision, they say;

I think that’s the beauty of this sort of roll-out we’re doing this year, where we’re releasing a single every month, is we can kind of experiment with different sounds and different vibes a little bit, just because it is a different body of work coming out as a single every month instead of a full album, where usually it has to, you know, flow congruently a little bit more.”
