Production duo Louis The Child enlist the help of rock band Foster The People for their latest single ‘Every Color’, and it’s a match made in sound heaven.

Both the musical acts infuse the song with their respective energies and styles, and what emerges is a dreamy, wondrous and moving tune that is set to reverberate inside our minds for a long, long time. The lyrics remain by and large cryptic and repetitive throughout the track, but that allows the song to become eerier and more hypnotic as it goes on. Louis The Child are known for mixing up sensational electronic pop tracks that become surefire hits for the clubs, but they veer off slightly for this track.

By deploying the chimes into the percussion arrangement, they channel futuristic, trance-like energy that only accelerates through the verses. Foster The People themselves aren’t known for their vocal power but lead singer Mark Foster finds a calm place within the composition. His voice is clear and powerful but the overlaps layered onto the vocals play their part into rendering this piece more complex and surreal. The same words keep flowing out of his mouth — “I can see every color in you.” It’s unclear as to what that refrain is referring to, but that’s the beauty of such songs. It’s not so much about the themes but the physical connection we can establish with the sound itself.

Louis The Child have been really busy over the years, continuing to releasing collaborations, remixes and stand-alone features every couple of months. In the past few years, they’ve worked with the likes of Chance The Rapper, Miike Snow, Childish Gambino and most recently Death Cab For Cutie. This new collaboration with Foster The People may represent their attempt at breaking into the contemporary alt-rock genre, and it looks to have hit the mark.

Speaking on how their musical style developed, they said:

We have a lot more of our own music and playing a lot less of others peoples music is basically the goal. We really honed in on our vibe Of the show we want to give And the whole dynamic of our performance from start to finish Weaving through different energies.”
